Jim has been playing bass longer than he cares to remember. The first band he was involved in at school, in Essex, was also called The Falcons and he came to bass playing by accident. He was learning to play guitar, but struggling with the number of strings. He got together with some friends at school to form The Falcons and they already had a proficient guitarist and needed a bass player, so he thought “it only has 4 strings perhaps it will be easier!”. It wasn’t but, perseverance has made him into the bass player he is today.
Jim has played in several different bands from trios through to sextets, Irish folk music to Chicago style blues.
During the 60s, as a member of the “Rae Russell Combo” he played as the supporting band to Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers at the Westcliff Pavilion in Southend on sea. Bobby Thomson, bass player of the Rebel Rousers lent Jim his bass (an Epiphone Viola bass) so he could hear what it sounded like.
Jim was also a member of another Bristol band, “The Midnite Blues Band” up until they broke up in December 2017
